Giant’s Malaysian retail operations were historically held under **GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd**, which owned and operated the Giant, Cold Storage and Mercato chains in Malaysia.[3][4] These businesses were part of the Hong Kong–listed **DFI Retail Group** (formerly Dairy Farm International). In February 2023 DFI announced it had entered into an agreement to sell all its food businesses in Malaysia, including the Giant brand, to Malaysian retail group **Macrovalue Sdn Bhd**, led by Datuk Andrew Lim.[1][2] Vulcan Post reports that once the sale is completed, the three brands in Malaysia (Giant, Cold Storage, Mercato) will be operated by Macrovalue Sdn Bhd.[1] The Edge/KLSE Screener similarly states that Giant, Cold Storage, Mercato, TMC and Giant Mini in Malaysia are being acquired from DFI by Macrovalue Sdn Bhd.[2] These sources strongly indicate that the immediate operating owner of Giant Malaysia is now Macrovalue Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian private company, rather than DFI. There is no indication that Macrovalue Sdn Bhd is listed on Bursa Malaysia or any foreign exchange, and it is described simply as a Malaysian retail group, so it is classified as **private**.[1][2] The former ultimate parent, DFI Retail Group, is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, but after completion of the sale it is no longer the owner of the Malaysian Giant operations.[1][2] As the available sources do not show Macrovalue being owned by any listed or government entity, the ultimate parent is conservatively treated as the same private company, Macrovalue Sdn Bhd.
